Reflections on Father’s Day means reflections on the gift of parenting. As my own children inch closer to their teenage years, I am getting just a hint of the angst I must have caused my own dad so many years ago! The beauty in a great Father-Daughter bond is in the patience. A father must be so patient and must have faith that things will turn out alright more times than I realized! Oh, the road can be long and winding … teenage years of rebellion and stubborn choices make way for college years when a child barely remembers they have a dad and then one day you realize you have called your dad three times this week … and then you begin texting a lot and you find yourself needing his sage advice, his guidance, and his support. Patience. I am 43 and still need my dad for the tough calls, for the talk-through issues, and for the ice tea on the back porch moments.
